Master Class

What is a Master Class?

The Master Class is where students perform songs in front of an audience of fellow students, friends and family, in a warm and friendly environment. Whether beginner or advanced, each “Performing Student” will receive feedback from Pro Singer, TEDx Speaker and Voice Coach - Carolyn T, on how to improve technique, performance and stage presence.

What's New?

  • From now on every Master Class will have a theme.
  • Suggestions are always welcome!
  • The theme for October 14 is: Storytelling

Themes can be interpreted any way that you want when you perform your song. For example ...Storytelling:

  • the word "storytelling" can be in the song or...
  • the song can be a story or...
  • the song reminds you of a story ....etc.

Be creative! Keep it simple 🙂

Solo, Duo or Trio?

Now, if you want, you can connect with fellow students and perform your songs as a duo or trio!

  • Each song performed as a duo or trio counts as one of your two songs whether you sing backups or lead
  • If you want, you may book a private session as a group to practice. If you purchase(d) a package of private one-on-one sessions then you may use one of those sessions toward your group session.
  • Prep rules still apply
  • Keep it simple

Tips, Tricks and Wisdom

When you perform, Smile! If you think you’ll look silly then consider what it looks like when when all you do is frown.

No one cares about your mistakes more than you.

Mumblers are never taken seriously. Open your mouth and people will listen.

Everyone has a talent. Many choose to ignore it.

Practice daily in the shower. The steam helps open up your sinuses.

Participate in open mics, karaokes, spoken word, poetry jams and improv.

Smiling opens the sides of your mouth and helps with projection.

Listening is equally as important as singing or speaking. Be teachable!

Wanna hit that high note? Try opening your mouth!

Singing is storytelling. Singers are storytellers.

Sing every day.

Be teachable.

Stage Fright

Use stage fright to your advantage. The more scared you are, the bigger you should be.

You are never too old to learn to sing.

Focus on the message and stage fright becomes less important.

Relax, slow down, take your time and don’t rush. Less is more!

Bigger is better. Don’t hold back!

To avoid vocal fatigue, warm up hours before your performance.

Don’t stop just because you made a mistake. Keep going!

It’s better to hit a wrong note than to make excuses.

Stay focused on your goals.

If you’re trying to think of what to say next, then you are not listening.

Listen to yourself. Appreciate the good, fix the bad.

It’s not about you, its about connecting with the audience.

You can only teach yourself so much before you hit a wall.

Humming is an excellent vocal warm up.

FYI - There will likely be someone shooting photos or video to be added to the website and social media. Students are encouraged to take photos and videos during the class as a learning tool. If you do not want to be in a photo or video please do not register OR come at your own risk.

Any group session can be customized for Corporate Team Building!
